Excellent app

Excellent app dont have to worry about getting lost and I like the ability to track my movement as Im moving! Great for hunting plants so that way youre not tracking over the same ground youve already been on. Can record my movement all day long with the little battery loss. great job guys:)

My "GO-TO"

Has completely replaced the GPS I used to carry!

love it!

this is far better than a stand alone gps unit that you might pay $300-$600 for

By far the best iPhone GPS app

I hate using a dedicated GPS for backpacking and have used my iPhone for A back county GPS for years. After the GPS app company I was using went out of business I was left with the decision to find a new GPS app. After hours of research and actually downloading a few apps I found Gaia GPS to have all of the features my previous app had and many more that I didnt know I needed. This app is absolutely the best GPS app in the iPhone. The map layers are easy to manipulate and there are many options when it comes to map sources. The tracking is spot on and quick to view in the main map screen. The accuracy is right on the money and the ability to automatically find a route right on my iPhone is pure genius. I like this app so much I decided to go with the yearly subscription. The Gaia GPS app is beyond full featured you wont be disappointed.

Gaia GPS Satellite View Useless

While most functions within the app work well, the satellite layer does not allow the user to zoom to a functional level. Unfortunately, this is a serious limitation for the overall usefulness of the app, or a questionable ploy to pressure one to pay for the $39/year pro subscription.

King of Backcountry Map Apps

I spent a lot of time comparing the feature sets of every topo-related map app I could find, and this app has more map sets and useful features than any other. Pricey compared to other apps (but you get what you pay for); cheap compared to Garmin offerings limited to one inferior map source. Has high detail old-school paper/raster topos, modern hit-and-miss vector topos, public land overlays (pro subscription), terrain shading (pro), web sync (pro), and much more. I use it regularly for route planning, overland exploration, and hiking.

Gaia GPS: Essential for 4x4 Trails

I organize my GPX Tracks with Gaia and redraw maps into Routes. The peace-of-mind this gives me on backroads is well worth the price.

Love it!

Works perfectly!

Amazing but needs some better polish

Best app for hiking and biking. Needs a bit of polish with graphics and interface. Also, it would be great if it integrated the workout information as an option. Heart rate and calories. Another suggestion would be trails navigation so it warns when you have strayed the path. Keep going!!

The power that this app packs into the iPhone is mind blowing

I first started using Gaia GPS on my iPod Touch, where offline maps are necessary. You get access to a wide variety of detailed topo and street maps. Accessing them is simple and you can save quite a large section that can be zoomed-in for complete details without a WiFi connection. And you get Canadian topos too (yeah!) And with my iPhone 7, it is much more useful, even when I am in the mountains far away from any connection. The feature list is impressive whether you want route tracking or navigation. The developers are super-responsive and are constantly adding new features; truly an app made by real outdoors people for others like them. Buy it; you wont be disappointed.

Been Using GAIA GPS on the North Country Trail in Michigan

Just began section hiking the NCT in Michigan this year. Water sources for parts of the trail are sometimes scarce and/or the type and quality of water isnt known. So Im using GAIA to track my route (over top of the GPS coordinates available through NCT website) and record water waypoints with notes attached. When I first began using the app I was somewhat cautious about what it can do. Bottom line... it has exceeded all my expectations. I love the multiple map overlays which are downloadable in case youre not in a reliable cellular area. My routes and waypoint are accessible from my smartphone, tablet and web access and there has been no problem syncing the routes and waypoints.

Peace of mind...

This app has saved me multiple times up in the mountains.

Awesome app -- definitely worth the money

This app has literally kept me from getting lost on the side of a mountain. Wish theyd add two things: 1) "driving directions" opening in google maps instead of apple maps , 2) "open waypoint in google maps" (or an easily copied and pasted set of comma-separated latitude and longitude coordinates to dump into Google Maps.

Great product!

It is a great product once you have a signal! It helped me see my way through the thick forest in Maryland.

Excellent powerful GPS package

v10.3-10.9: Continues substantially improving usability, reliability and UI refinements. Nice work!

Crashing often

Has crashed several times with the newest version.

Outdoor Enthusiast best friend

I finally found an app with topographic (USGS Mexico, Canada, Europe, Africa, Australia, Antártica, etc.)overlay maps built in along with satellite images option. The NEXRAD weather map can be superimposed and allows you early weather awareness. The "crumb trail" and Waypoints are features that are included, which are not an option in other apps. The Navigation instructions provides options for alternate routes. The app allows you to trace on the screen your favorite trail or river, then provides distance and altitude statistics. They would have gotten 5 stars, but I am yet to receive an answer to the customer service question to explain the benefits of the optional monthly or yearly subscription service.

GaiaGPS just gets better and better!

Version 10.9.4 is incredible, and I recommend GaiaGPS without reservation. The record track, pause track, finish track, resume track are now intuitive and user friendly. The ability to choose mapping layers, record, and email tracks to friends including trip data (distance, speed, elevation gain and loss) plus gpx & .kml files, and a whole host of other features now make this an incredibly powerful and useful mapping app. In addition, it is being actively supported and updated very very frequently. One can display a previous trip on the map and follow it in real time. Or one can import a friends .kml file and display it and follow it in the same way in real time. Saved tracks can now be placed in folders and synced to your gaiaGPS cloud account. Too many other useful features to list. This is the mapping app I recommend to backpackers, equestrians, mountain bikers, and hikers without any reservation whatsoever. It is a steal at $20. (I actually pay the additional extra $40 per year for Pro level, but be honest I am doing that more as a show of support for the wonderful job they are doing than the few additional features I get as a result. Truth is youll 99% of the features, which includes all the important ones, when you purchase the $20 app.)

Great hiking companion!

Good tool for any hike or walker. Most trails are on here. Download an area at home and go. Theoff-line feature lets you track your progress!

Great

This is a great GPS app. Would be perfect if it supported 3rd party GPS dongles like the Bad Elf GNSS Survey and had NTRIP support or raw logging to RINEX format.
